green slimy pond

since the warmer weather has set in, my koi pond has been getting progressively worse until last week I could label it as an algae bloom and was forced to do something about it. The fish didn't seem too disturbed. in fact they seem to have gotten friendlier since the water is so murky they can easy hide from you so they are swimming closer to the surface.
however the pond is looking pretty bad and starting to stink. I had to purchase a second biofilter unit (the small one on the right) hopefully this should clear up the pond.

Boy from Oz

Hooi and I went to see the Boy from Oz last Saturday. was very entertaining.
well the show itself was pretty ordinary but the performance by Hugh Jackman was excellent and more than made up for the show's weak script. I have a new healthy respect for the talent of Hugh Jackman's. I tried to take a photo of him in an eagles outfit but it turned out pretty rubbish

a new record

set a new record for my most expensive spew on the weekend courtesy of Robin's bucks night and Sean's egging on (its all your fault Sean!) .
the contents included lots of curry from 9 Mary's plus my share of a Grange, a nice Henschke, a dead arm, a berringer and lots more preimum wines.

fun with a spray gun

painted the fence this weekend. tried last weekend doing it manually with a brush. apart from getting a dead arm, the finish was blotchy because it was hard to control the level of 'wetness' on the super 6 fence. not enough moisture and the fence just sucks up your paint and you're going over the same spot again and agin wasting paint. too much water and the paint just runs.
So.. anyway after a tip from a mate (thanks Alex) I hired a paint sprayer. it isn't cheap at $160 for 4 hours but definitely worth it for saving time and getting a professional finish. takes a while to get the hang of the sprayer but after the first couple of panels its easy. lots of fun.
I even had time to seal the paving over the weekend and had half of father's day to rest.

Mikayla's first month dinner

Sunday night was Mikayla's first month celebration dinner. A traditional celebration for chinese to celebrate well the baby surviving their first month of life. Also a celebration for the mum and dad for having survived the mother's confinement period without going postal. Now the mum can finally take baths, roam outside of the house and stop eating smelly confinement food. Yay! its over forever!
After the usual choas of last minute table rearranging everyone settled in and the meal was excellent as always thanks to the guys at Joy Gardens. Mikayla enjoyed being the center of attention and didn't mind being passed about and doted on.
